The DHS-100 is a compact, self-contained sonar designed for divers attempting to locate submerged objects such as downed aircraft, vehicles, ordinance and other targets. In addition to providing bearing and range information, the DHS-100 can also be used to home-in on pingers and other underwater sound sources.
Using continuous transmission frequency modulation (CTFM), the system has an active mode for locating objects up to 20, 60, and 120 yard ranges. A continuous signal of varying frequencies is transmitted and range information is determined by comparing the transmitted frequency to the echo frequency. When a target is located, an audible tone is generated in the headset. A low tone indicates a close target and a high tone signals a more distant target. The tone becomes continually lower as the diver moves toward it until contact is made. Experienced diver operators become adept at determining range and target characteristics from the echo signal. When the DHS-100 is set in the passive mode, it provides bearing information to a pinger or other sound source.
The system comes complete with compass, charger, skull cap headset, flotation collar, rechargeable batteries, spare parts kit, and carrying case.
